Tasting Notes: Honey, toasted vanilla beans and sweet butterscotch give way to citrus & grapefruit notes, creamy toffee and hints of caramelised banana with a sweet, complex and lingering finish. A very well balanced and rounded whisky indeed.

The 'Winter Malt' release was inspired by the unique selection of New Zealand malts that they chose for their mashbill - Manuka Smoked Malt: The Manuka tree is indigenous to New Zealand, and this is the world’s only manuka smoked malt. It has a smooth, sweet smokiness; Chocolate Roasted Malt: This was specially roasted for Pokeno, and has lovely coffee and chocolate aromas; Toffee Malt: This is a unique malt, roasted at very low temperatures and then caramelised. It adds honey and toffee flavours. Laureate Distillers Malt: This is a very sweet and floral malt. The Winter Malt has been aged in only the finest first fill bourbon barrels.
Tasting Notes: On the nose there is sweet honied smoke, chocolate caramel slice, vanilla bean and toffee. In the mouth notes of bitter dark chocolate and cocoa beans, mingle beautifully with creamy fudge, for a long, sweet and smoky finish.

The result is an incredibly rich whisky with notes of citrus combining beautifully with the deep flavours from the PX cask. There is dark chocolate, dried fruit and black forest gateaus with a deep long finish.
This is in fact a double wood or a vatting of Single Malt Whiskies fully matured in first fill bourbon barrels and PX Sherry Hogsheads which have then been laid into a PX hogshead for a marrying period of several months to integrate the flavours.

Tasting Notes: Black forest gateau, cinnamon and ripe cherry flavours overlay dark chocolate notes and a hint of sweet citrus to deliver a rich, smooth and incredibly long finish.

Triple Distillation helps to concentrate not only the alcohol in the whisky, but also helps create lighter, more fruity flavours. Having only two stills, they performed the final two distillations in the 3600 litre spirit still, separating the hearts from the heads and tails each time. Slow distillation allows a significant amount of reflux in the stills after which a very small "heart" (of approximately only 20% of the distillation run) is collected to mature. By adding an additional distillation, this has pushed the profile to the next level.
Pokeno Triple Distilled single malt has been matured in only the finest first fill bourbon barrels, giving us an incredibly smooth, sweet and honeyed single malt. On the nose there is rich honey and vanilla with hints of citrus and toffee. In the mouth rich vanilla bean and butterscotch mingle with notes of sweet citrus and a hint of pepper clove. There is a long rich finish.

TOTARA is the indigenous tree that built Aotearoa. From the arrival of Maori, the timber from this tree was used to build waka, homes, carvings, weapons and containers for storing food. The wood is hard and straight grained, with sweet and creamy notes when toasted. POKENO has New Zealand’s only working Cooperage and it is here that the world’s first ever 200L Totara barrels have been crafted with a light toast and a light char for maturing whisky.
After a full maturation in first fill bourbon casks, the whisky has been transferred to the Totara barrels for a second maturation period.
Tasting Notes: On the nose there are notes of creamy coconut, sweet scented sap, ripe white peach and freshly cut wood. In the mouth we discover bitter lemon, stone fruit and hints of dark chocolate for a long and sweet finish.

The 'REVELATION' forms a part of the core range of their Single Malt releases and is matured in First Fill Bourbon and NZ Red Wine Barrels. Parcels of stock which have been fully matured in first fill bourbon and New Zealand Red Wine casks are blended and then laid to rest in casks again to allow a perfect marriage of flavours.
Tasting Notes: Soft red summer fruits such as mango, with notes of fresh cut hay, strawberry bonbons, lychee and sherbet combine for a sweet and smooth taste of summer.
