Bottled in 2019, the Ichiro's Malt Chichibu 'On The Way' edition celebrates the distillery's evolution as it approaches its milestone of releasing its first 10-year-old single malt in 2020. With only 11,000 bottles released, this limited expression is a testament to the distillery's craftsmanship and dedication to quality.

Crafted from a vatting of 52 casks, each matured for between five to ten years, the whisky predominantly features first-fill ex-bourbon casks, complemented by a select few second-fill chibidaru casks and hogsheads with mizunara (Japanese oak) heads. Some peated whisky is also included, adding complexity to this intriguing release.

This rare whisky is a remarkable vatting crafted by Mr. Ichiro Akuto, blending two single casks from the now-closed Hanyu and Kawasaki distilleries. Created to celebrate the 27th Anniversary of the Kiyosato Field Ballet, it highlights the unique characteristics of its sources.

The Kawasaki Distillery, owned by Mercian Corporation (also owners of the Karuizawa Distillery), specialized in grain whisky, utilizing a mash bill of 90% corn and 10% malted barley aged in Refill Sherry Butts and Demerara Rum casks. Following its closure, much of the distillery's inventory was stored in the Yamanashi warehouse and acquired by Mr. Akuto in 2006.
