Nikka Whisky proudly houses two distinctive distilleries: Yoichi and Miyagikyo. In 1969, Masataka established Miyagikyo Distillery, drawn to a picturesque foggy glen nestled amid Northern mountains and the convergence of two pristine rivers. After sampling the water from one of these rivers, now the distillery's water source, Masataka was captivated and promptly decided to build a distillery on the site. Apart from its distinct terroir, Miyagikyo employs a different distillation method compared to Yoichi, resulting in uniquely characteristic malt whiskies. This alternative technique imparts soft and floral notes to Miyagikyo Single Malt, offering a delightful contrast to the bold flavors of its counterpart.

The new single malt from the Miyagikyo Distillery of Nikka is a vatting of various aged whiskies matured in primarily ex-Sherry casks. Color: Gold Nose: Full flavoured and rich floral notes, beeswax and tropical fruits Palate: Malty cereal balanced with spices such as cinnamon, some ginger and chocolate at the back. Finish: Some tobacco with cooked fruits with a lingering softness.
