Glengyle is currently owned by the Mitchell family, who also own Springbank Distillery and Cadenheads bottlers. Located in Campbeltown, the original Glengyle Distillery was established by members of the Mitchell family in 1872, operating until 1925. The distillery changed hands over the years, involving a transfer of the "Glengyle" trademark. In 2004, after 79 non-producing years, the distillery was reinstated by Mitchell’s Glengyle Ltd.
However, the new Glengyle Distillery now produces its Single Malts under the "Kilkerran" brand. The name "Kilkerran" is derived from the Gaelic “Ceann Loch Cille Chiarain,” which is the name of the original settlement where Saint Kieran had his religious cell, and Campbeltown now stands. The Glengyle distillery uses the same floor-malted barley from Springbank next door and is also operated by the same team from Springbank for three months in a year.

Released under Kilkerran's "Peat in Progress" bottling series in 2019, this Heavily Peated Batch 2 is a vatting of 55% Ex-Bourbon & 45% Ex-Sherry Matured Whiskies from the Glengyle Distillery and bottled at an impressive ABV of 60.9%. This expression has been released as a limited edition while Campbeltown's Glengyle distillery awaits its peated stock to come to full maturation.
Tasting Notes: Toasted malt, smoked bacon with earthy notes and hint of fresh citrus. On the palate, some cooked apples, herbs with peppery smoke and spices along with a subtle notes of ginger.
