Laphroaig Distillery Single Malt Scotch Whisky
Founded in 1815 when brothers Donald and Alexander Johnston leased 1000 acres of land from the laird of Islay, this expanse is now known as Laphroaig. In 1954, a significant chapter unfolded as Bessie Williamson assumed the helm, becoming the sole woman to own and operate a whisky distillery. Having served as the secretary of the previous owner and de facto manager during his absence, Williamson played a pivotal role in the distillery's history.
A momentous year for Laphroaig occurred in 1994 when Prince Charles bestowed his own Royal Warrant upon Laphroaig Single Malt. This same year saw the founding of the Friends of Laphroaig community. In 2014, the ownership of Laphroaig transitioned as Beam Global was acquired by the Japanese group Suntory.
Laphroaig is renowned for its distinctive tarry iodine notes, complemented by sweet citrus undertones. This unique flavor profile is believed to stem from their preference for ex-Bourbon barrels in most of their maturation processes.

The Càirdeas expression for 2022 was created especially for Friends of Laphroaig. This limited edition single malt whisky was aged in first-fill Maker’s Mark Bourbon barrels and the classic Laphroaig flavours are elevated further with a distinctive coastal character reminding one of sea spray and storms. Warehouse 1’s rare four-storey construction, fluctuating temperature, and exposure to rugged conditions bring out enigmatic flavours and a maritime quality. But at the same time this is excellent core distillate that still possesses quite a definite distillery character. The kind of juice you could easily guzzle on a summer evening on Islay, while simultaneously applying it to your bare skin in an attempt to fend off the midgies."

A very creamy and a complex palette of flavors the 18 Year Old is an excellently balanced whisky which has since ceased production in 2016.
