This Single Malt Scotch Whisky was distilled in June 1990 at the Macallan Distillery and aged for 31 years in an ex-Bourbon cask. In 2021, it was finished in a Mizunara (Japanese Oak) cask, sourced from slow-growing, 200-year-old trees in Hokkaido, whose tight grain is ideal for maturation. This distinctive finishing process makes this whisky as rare as the 1990 Macallan itself, marking a bold endeavor in whisky craftsmanship. The resulting spirit is the final piece in this unique journey through whisky history.
This release represents the longest Macallan to be finished in Mizunara, having spent nearly two years in the Japanese Oak cask. The accompanying box, crafted from Nazareno (purple heart) wood, features a sliding door design with rare earth magnets, elegantly completing the trilogy.
